Good news you caught it before it became a problem!

I am testing my brake fluid every spring with a tester. I will change the fluid at the first sign of brake fluid degradation. Currently only two years into the process.

 

I always just hold my finger over the end of the tube while pumping the lever when flushing brakes on a bike.

Speed bleeders are handy on a car though.

That’s a good idea.😎 On some bikes you can’t reach though

 

Brake fluid is toxic so please wear gloves.

 

Pretty much every fluid in a motorcycle is toxic😅

Injected into your skin refers to high pressure hydraulic systems which can press the fluid through the skin. It works the same on an open cut without the high pressure.

 

When I pump fresh brake fluid from Master through caliper I just put an 8mm box wrench on blead valve and then a drain tube over the nipple to a catch can. I open and close with the wrench with 1 hand and pump with the other hand or foot if servicing rear brake. Gloves I just don't use. But I do take cuts and scratches seriously. I have bled on many vehicles with lots of swearing involved. If brake fluid can remove paint, I suspect it is not good for health either.
