I recently had the chance to toss a leg over a Rebel 500 and I noticed that in the normal riding position my right leg rests on the crankcase cover (Not sure honestly, I'm not much of wrench guy) but at any rate I was wondering if this has been a heat or comfort issue for anybody?

I do wear boots and jeans when I ride, but I have not noticed any discomfort from my leg against the crankcase cover.

The height of the seat is another issue, it is too low.

I notised it a little to start with, being used to ride more racing kind of bikes. It took a little time to get used to, but now I don't even notise it anymore.

Same here... I got used to it.

ETA: It also helps if you just relax when you ride, rather than try to constantly hug the bike with your legs (which is what they taught us in the MSF course). Ignore that and you're good lol.

Don't have the problem KMGuy mentioned. Like Kenny G, I always ride with a pair of boots and jeans.

Love the seat height because I can comfortably flat-foot on the Rebel being only 5'5" with a short inseam.

Problem is I need to move the handlebar about 1" backwards. The reach is a tad too far to ride
comfortably "cruiser style". I have to lean slightly forward which is great when riding fast but not for cruising around.

Not a problem here, just ride with ankle boots and jeans and cruise down the road.

I wear boots and heavy denim jeans or kevlar jeans so it shouldn't be an issue I hope. Also, at 5'6" seat height seemed ok. Hopefully I can persuade them to let me take test ride when the time comes.

My Honda dealer left me test ride both a 300 & 500 Rebel. Both had full fuel tanks and they told me make sure I returned before they closed....

No problems here too. The plastic guard does a fine job. My leg has rested up against it many times and I feel nothing..

Yeah, I overdid that too at the driving lessons. Only suppose so do that when you actually need to, as in turns and such.

I think you'll be fine on it. I'm about 5'6" / 5'7" and a 30" inseam and I think it's a fairly comfortable position. It's definitely very different from sports bike but once you get use to it, there shouldn't be any problems. I ride a 300A but I don't think heat would be a issue for you either. You'll learn the best position for the placement of your feet over time. I tend to ride a little bowed leg out and it seems to be the most comfortable for me as well.
