Anyone have any idea what kind of bike they will move on too after the rebel? I rode a 500 this summer as my first motorcycle and loved every minute of it. My only problem is power, I want something bigger and faster. If only honda made a rebel 900 or something else to grow into...

I'm thinking about the same, already laid my eyes on Yamaha XV950 (Bolt) but that's still underpowered a bit..
I see myself ending up on CB1100 (rs) eventually ;)

I think the right upgrade for me, would be buying a 2014 Honda F6C 1800.

The testers said it was a must have... (and enough powered, I guess)

For me (a beginner though) the 500 has just enough power. in driving school i drove a suzuki gladius with 72 ps (i believe) and there isnt such a great gap between. But on the other side, i didnt rode it with a passenger or with heavy cargo...

For myself, i will keep it for at least the next five years or so =)

I don't know.. I was learning on Gladius and I find that bike a lot more highway capable then the Rebel.. I'm not saying the Rebel isn't enough, but it a bit underpowered in my eyes too. If it was like 750cc with 70ish hp then I would say it is the perfect all rounder.

Kinda sad to say that I'm feeling the slight need/want for something more too. A little more "umpf" sort of speak. Not that the 500 isn't being able to keep up with the rest out there, but... It's right in between. It's not slow, but at the same time it's not fast either.
And besides that, it keeps dawning upon me again and again here. The Rebel is actually a pretty small bike...
I'm 6'1 (1,86) tall, and at times I kinda feel rather big on the bike.
Stopped by the dealer a week or two back, and the Rebel was lined up among other bikes there, and the difference in size is rather ridiculous.
Not that I want a freaking goldwing or anything like that thou...

But I get it thou, the Rebel is meant to be your typical beginner bike, and is made to suite riders in that aspect. As well as those who struggle with riding taller bikes. And in that aspect, it does it's job very well.

I'll be hanging onto the Rebel for a good couple of years, like 4/5 I imagine. But I don't see it as your typical bike that most will be willing the keep around in the long run. I'm guessing there will be a lot of used Rebels out there for sale in 5 years, or even sooner.

As a beginner the Rebel 500 is perfect for me. It is forgiving, light, agile and low. It's also basic so I have to listen to the engine, remember my gear, etc.
I also feel like I'm getting more than enough power for my modest needs, commuting on a daily basis, longer road trips on the weekends.
Do I need more than this for commuting and weekend rides? I really don't know. I have more experienced riders telling me I might get bored at some point. I just hope it will take me a good few years to get there - I'm a happy camper for now.

I went to the NEC Motorcycle live show last week and sat upon many bikes. I think the Kawasaki Z900 RS fitted me the best. But i absolutely loved the Indian Scout Bobber..........i think that the Indian will be my next bike. Absolutely beautiful machine. Triumph can stick their bobber up their whatsit, its uncomfortable and inner leg clashes badly with shiny parts!

Z900RS is really nice..
Before i bought the Rebel I had few others im my mind: Kawa w800, Bonnie, Kawa Vulcan S, Yamaha Xsr700, Yamaha Sr400.. The one I really dream about is the CB 1100Rs. But that is far in the future..
After all I have no regrets buying the Rebel, love every bit of it

Before you purchase an Indian Motorcycle make sure you know who you are dealing with.

Indian is notorious for lousy dealers with poor service departments.

Haha, a lesson learned the hard way I guess! lol!

Not that I'm regretting it, it's my first bike and it's such a simple and capable machine. It provides me with everything I really need, city riding, road trips, etc.
And I gave my bike the name Wabi-Sabi for a reason, it means beauty of passing time, when something becomes more beautiful and special with time. And that's exactly what my bike will be, when I with time will mold it and shape it into how I want it. So it can only go up :grin2:
So I'm really looking forward to see what else is gonna show up on the marked for it in the coming year. Hopefully things will really shoot away and take off for it on the marked.

They do make a bigger bike. The Shadow 750.
I've been on a shadow phantom750 (not sure which year)and the power is not any real increase from the rebel 500. The shadow has like 48hp were the rebel 500 has about 45hp and with the rebel being so much lighter it ends up being faster on the road.
