Honda Rebel 300 & 500 Forum banner

New to the forum! I’m purchasing a 2018 Rebel 300 ABS tomorrow that has only 180 Original miles from a private party!

Couple questions:

1. Does anyone have a link to an online manual for this model?
2. What maintenance is needed now or soon?
3. What gas do you put in your rebel? 87, 93, or Ethanol-free?
4. Any pro tips? This is my 2nd bike, I own a 2002 rebel 250 which I’ve had for a month an am selling right now.
5. Any sticky threads you think I should read?

I would suggest purchasing a shop manual.

2. Oil change is the first maintenance and it is needed at 800miles. I believe you are suppose to check the valves at this point as well.
3. This will probably be debated forever. But the correct answer is 87. The bikes was made to run on 87. If you run anything else it will be just wasting money because the bikes computer is going to adjust everything as close as possible to running 87 fuel. You have no benefit going with higher octane. That being said ethanol-free is a different story. If is readily available near you, then it is probably best. The problem for me is there is only 1 or 2 gas stations in my area that have ethanol-free. While you may not notice a difference. It will keep the engine running better and stop the ethanol from slowly ruining bike parts.
4. Pro tips. The bike is quite different than the rebel 250. While the engine isn't much bigger it produces 33% more power while only being about 30lbs heavier. It is also single cylinder compared to twin on the older 250. That means you will be getting more vibration in the bike than you are probably use to.
5. Prob best just to read through a bunch of threads, the bike is simple to ride but may see some things in the threads that interest you.
6. After initial break in I switched to Amsoil synthetic motor oil and filter. But the honda oil and filter would be fine as well.

there is a search engine under the Tools tab at the top of the page. As this site is dedicated specifically to this model bike (300 and 500) just about anything you want to know has been addressed over the past two years. Familiarise yourself with this tool and have fun reading to your heart's content. Unfortunately many topics are covered multiple times due to the same questions being asked every month or two. You'll find everyone is very willing to help, there is a huge font of knowledge on tap here, but take the time to see if what you're looking for isn't already in here somewhere. It's more fun that way, you may start off looking for one thing and end up looking into all sorts of other things along the way.
