I know of a half dozen or so guys who hate the Rebel because it breaks the long held montra of high, swept back bars connected to a long raked fork and foot controls set as far away from the seat as possible{I call it the lazy-boy riding position}. To them that is the only motorcycle design!
FWIW the new models and the 250/450 Rebels share the same frame geometry measurements: 30º rake and 4.3" trail. As far as the "forward controls" on the 250, for anyone with more than a 30" inseam it's really not that far forward. Besides, with a low 25" seat from the factory moving the pegs back would only make it uncomfortable as you would have to fold your legs into a pretzel to use them...hence the taller seat on the new models to accommodate the mid-glide peg position.

The seat height on the Rebel 250 is listed as 26.6 inches and the new rebel is 27.2. So you think that approx .6 inches allows them to completely change the foot posistion?

Whoops...docs have me off caffeine and I was thinking of one of my other rides (600 Shadow seat height is 25.6").

Oddly enough, I like the looks of the Rebel more than the HD Street because the rebel tank looks more like the old Sportster tank. I really don't like the looks of the "flat" tanks on the Street.
That might be why i started seeing HD Street owners talk about removing the headlight surround since removing that alone can do a lot. For one, not making the tank look as flat, among the others.

28º in the frame, +2º in the trees...thus the raked tree makes the fork rake 30 just like the original Rebel.

4. The Honda Rebel geometry is designed for easy riding. The rake is set at 28 degrees, with an additional offset of two degree, so the Rebels will be stable.
Granted a raked tree sets up a new set of handling characteristics where the front wheel rotates left-to-right on a different/wider axis than the steering head, it's a weird feeling the first time you experience it, more so after you've ridden a bike with a standard tree (re: MSF course or prior bike etc).

I thought I would start up this thread again. I'm looking at either the rebel 500 or triumph Street Twin. The latter is more expensive new, slightly used is in the ballpark as the out the door price of a new rebel 500 with ABS. The street twin has a lowish seat (29.5") and is apparently a torque monster having a very flat power curve. I commute about 60 miles / day of mixed street and single lane highway. Does anyone have any experience riding them both and could give some feedback? Thx

I got a rebel 500 already.
But before I decided for this bike, I d´liked to got informations about the bandwidht for other 500cc´s (or 600) in my country (Austria). And there are not much new bikes available, better to say, no one.
Since the 2000s, customers preferences here have changed. People like to have either very heavy bikes of all sorts, minimum 1000ccm and up, or they prefer scooters or mopeds. Not much in between. Before, there had been a lot of 500s, 650s, 750s.

The HD Street is only available in the 750 version. The Rebel 300 is not available in the whole of europe. As an alternative to the Rebel 500 you can get a Kawasaki Vulcan or an Enfield Bullet 500. That´s all for this types of bikes (cruiser/ bobber).
Before I decided for the Rebel, I looked around for used bikes like Yamaha Virago 550 or Honda Shadow 600. But they all seemed too old, or to much mileage on them or they had a too worn out state, or all of them.
The last competitors in my mind had been the Rebel or the Royal Enfield. I´ve talked to people a lot and had read nearly all the reports in the net about the bikes and in the end it was the Rebel and I don´t regret it.

I had a '07 Royal Enfield Bullet, it was a fun bike, but the Rebel 500 is light years ahead of it.

I love my 2015 Vulcan S - but it is much heavier than the 300 my wife has (obviously, but its balance and weight are still heavier than the 500). While the Vulcan S has a better gauge cluster and seating/handle/controls stock options, I do have to say the sound, weight, modification options, and gas consumption aren't as nice as the Rebel 500. I do hate the horn/signal placement on the Rebel...

If I was to have a Rebel 500 and a Vulcan S in front of me and I had to choose, I think I would lean towards the Rebel, but BARELY.

My other bike is the naked Yamaha MT-07. Any interest in that? Lightweight (comparatively), twin, exhilarating ride, reliable, economical and wide-smiile-inducing fun.

The MT-07 is a great bike. If the MT-06 would have been imported to the U.S. I would have bought one as soon as they got here.
