Rebel 1100 Cruise Control not working

My cruise control has not worked since I bought the bike. Took it in for

first service & the tech worked on it about 2 1/2 hours, had Honda on the phone, still no luck. Honda is supposed to get back to the dealer, & I will bring it back in.
Has anyone else had this problem?

I had an issue one time so far where I went to use the cruise control and nothing would happen. The indicator wouldn't even turn on on the dash. I pulled over and shut the bike off and restarted it and it worked after that. That's the only problem I've had so far though.

try to go into a higher gear before you push down the set lever. i havent fiddled with cruise control a lot since i havent needed to use it. but i remember my bike going 60kmph while in 4th gear before i set the cruise control lever down.

unless you folks are talking about turning the cruise control ON, not setting the speed lever..

I just got my 1100 dct model on Friday. Same issue; can’t get the cruise control to turn on even in the correct gear/speed thresholds per owners manual. My dealership is trying to figure out what to do next but admits this is there first rebel 1100 they have worked on... so no cruise control for now. Anyone else have an update?

I should have updated sooner. Mine works fine now. One of the inputs from the brake inputs needed adjusting. Makes sense, I guess they're related to the automatic ways to turn cruise control off - which is an important feature. For instance, if the cruise control light comes on, but it won't set a speed, it could be as simple as you're putting a bit of pressure on the rear brake pedal, or at least the computer is sensing pressure.

After getting mine adjusted, I have had one instance where the cruise control light wouldn't go on. Pulled over, turned the bike off for 20 seconds, all good.

Yes, it was the service manager at the dealership where I bought it. And it was when I brought it in for the 600 mile service. He's more of a 'got the t-shirt' person, rather that 'I'll see what the directions say' person. I just raised the brake pedal as a possible issue and it's really easy to check - just rotate your right foot 15 degrees out and see what happens.

I believe it’s the activation of the brake light that will turn off the set cruise control (that way either brake will turn it off). The rear brake light switch can be either set too close or your foot could be putting just enough pressure to activate the light without engaging the brake.
I had a shop change the position of my rear brake to be more ergonomic for me. Moving the brake light sensor was part of that adjustment. I found that the rear brake was initially much too high. Much better now and have not had any issues with the cruise control at all. Mine is the manual version by the way.

To adjust the brake light, there's a black module attached to the footpeg stay... I think that's what it's called. Look down at your rear brake, look for a plastic black box- same basic shape as you'd find on a car. There's an adjustment nut which is a pita to get to. I ended up doing mine by hand, no wrenches and it took a lot of fiddling but wasn't hard.

Double check your work- make sure the brake light is off until you push the pedal. Make sure the light doesn't come on too soon or you may bump it and shut the cruise control off.

I could have sworn I wrote a reply like this already... sorry if I'm late to the party.

here are a couple of switches you can easily check to verify if they are the cause of cruise not being able to be set...there are more involved testing procedures of other switches in the service manual.

1. front brake switch
non adjustable
has 2 switches...1 for brake light and 1 for cruise cancel
disconnect the switch that has 2 black wires
with front brake lever released there should be no continuity through the switch...replace if necessary

2. rear brake switch
adjustable
has 2 switches...1 for brake light and 1 for cruise cancel
follow the wire assembly from brake switch up into the frame and disconnect it
check continuity between the Br and Br/G terminal wires
with rear brake pedal released and properly adjusted there should be no continuity through the switch...adjust or replace if necessary

Rear brake pedal height can be adjusted by loosening the red arrow jam nut and then turning the blue arrow nut/rod in or out of the clevis to obtain the height you want. Re-tighten jam nut. If you change the rear brake pedal height you should also check the brake switch adjustment.

To check the brake switch adjustment
turn key on
lightly press the brake pedal down...you will go through some free travel...when you meet a slight resistance the brake light should come on at that point.
turn blue arrow nut in or out to make adjustment if needed
the nut is tricky to turn but can be done using your index fingers...one up through the footrest bracket and the other at the top

The switch adjustment nut can also be reached more easily by removing the 2 foot rest mounting bracket bolts and turning the assembly outwards as shown here

I had problem once. Stopped and restarted bike resolved the problem. I don't remember exactly but there was a control anamoly before this happened. Something like trying to manually change gears when the dct was also changing gears.

it's been happening to my motorcycle for some time, it's not the first time. I tried to remove the terminals from the battery for a while but when I reassembled the battery it is the same. he starts walking only when he wants to. and this month it just came out of warranty. I think I will do the Greece-Romania route without cruise control...
