So when I first got the bike I noticed that if the kick stand is open the bike does not start or if its on and you flip the kick stand it acts as a kill switch for the bike I thought it was a nifty little feature.

and then recently I noticed that the kick stand does nothing it stopped being a kill switch, I can start the bike up with the stand being on. It's just a plain old stand.

Anyone else seeing this?

From my understanding if the bike is in neutral it will start the bike up even if the kick stand is put down. If you have the bike in gear you will not be able to start the bike with the kick stand put down. I usually leave my bike in first gear so I don't run into this confusion for the most part.

This is correct.

Yep. Start it in neutral with the kickstand down, then shift into first. It should kill the engine.
