New user here. Stoked to have just picked up the 500 yesterday and ridden it some 35 miles home.

First, I realized later the dealer never gave me an owner's manual. Anyone know where I might be able to download it online?

Second, the salesman seemed confident that the engine has been broken in enough to where I don't need to take it easy the first 600 or so miles. Not sure I buy that, though. Any thoughts? So hard not to open the thing up with that low-end pull!

I suggest you go back to the dealership and ask for the manual book. My salesman told me to go easy on it for the first 500 miles, don't cruise keep the rpms moving, and Welcome to the rebel family!

Awkward,

Before you drive back to the dealer look under your seat, the manual may be stashed there.

Kenny
^^That.

If you pull off the right side panel, there's an allen wrench stored there that fits the 2 screws at the rear of the seat (you'll need a flat head screwdriver or a coin to release the wrench). Or, save yourself some time and trouble and just use your own allen wrench if you have one, though I don't recall what size it takes... 5 or 6 mm I think?

Hopefully the dealer will give you one or it's stashed under the seat. Make them give you one! Welcome and ride safe!

So did it end up being under the seat?
I got two. They gave me a clean, immaculate one with my paperwork and keys. Then, yesterday, I found another one stashed under my seat! I'll leave that one there forever, see how it fares. The one they gave me has already been useful in learning how to get that dang cover over the battery out of my way!

I think they gave you mine by mistake. Private message me your address and I'll send you a SASE. Ha ha.

Giving this thread a bump, as I'm in a similar boat as OP. Bought used private party and the guy had unfortunately lost the manual less than a year into ownership.

Contacted Honda to ask where/how I can get a 2017 owner's manual, as there is nothing I can find online about getting a replacement. No word back from Honda yet...

Does the hive mind have a hookup here? Is the local stealer the best option?

I can trade a 1999 Honda Shadow 750 ACE manual - very good condition!

Got a .pdf copy of the owner manual from Honda

UPDATE: American Honda Motor Co. Inc. came through on the customer service!

AHM replied with a .pdf of the owner manual. Awesome service. Unfortunately its a 4.5 MB document and I can't attach, nor can I downsample through my usual elite hacker means. :(

If I can find an easy way to upload/share, I'll let the forum know. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

PS - thanks Techsniffer for the link to get on the list for the hard copy from HELMINC.

There is a copyright on that manual, meaning it would be illegal for you to share it here on this Forum.

I would argue that since the owners manual comes with the bike that it would fall under "Fair Use" under the research category and as it has been shown that Honda is giving free digital copies to those that ask would further strengthen that argument.

Well, I contacted said 'American Honda Motor Co Inc' requesting a PDF of the Rebel 500 owner's manual a few weeks ago.
All they sent was a survey asking how well they had performed!!
No PDF only a survey!!

We would err on the side of caution here. It is against the forum rules to post that here (or any form of sharing), so the legal interpretation or anecdotal precedent doesn't really matter. We would not allow it.
