I didn't see a post dedicated to this yet... if I missed it, mods feel free to merge.

So far (around 170 miles I think?), I'm averaging around 62/63 mpg on my 500.

In town up to around 35mph, I keep it in 4th... 5th up to around 45mph, and 6th gear for above that.

I'm pleased. :)

I've averaged ~69 mpg (US gallons) over the last 15K miles on my CB500XA. That is mostly in-town crap, but I did a trip from southern AZ to central Montana to see friends, as well. The bike was a big improvement over touring on my 1989 NX250; nothing like a nearly new seat!

which is pretty disappointing from their advertised 70 mpg... Oh well. Maybe I'm riding it too fast
I imagine if one were to ride close to the owners manual's suggested shift points that they would see something closer to 70...although that does seem to be a pretty liberal figure, something a 250 is capable of. Still, there have been the few odd reports from gen-2 600 Shadow owners that creep towards the 70mpg mark so it's certainly possible.

So, you've put 15k miles on your bike in a month?

Look folks, I am an old fart (75 now). The bike is used for basic transportation and shopping for my mother. I figured as you guys have pretty much the same engine and transmission, my experience with that bike might be of interest to a few of you. I will not discuss my 223 cc off-road bike.

well, city driving I am averaging around 180kms to a tank. Highway, I think it will be lower as its rev'ing allot higher, we'll see. Planning a weekend road trip soon. 200kms to nearest gas station from where my city is. Anyone knows Fort McMurray, Alberta, only one way in and one way out, 440kms to nearest large city (Edmonton). lol.

Y'all do realize that the fuel pump is in the tank and cooled by the fuel. Running it darn near dry tends to heat up the fuel pump which is an unneeded stress.
