So I posted a while back that I was having a problem with my clock/turn fuse being blown after fitting new LED Headlight and Indicators, and a new Halogen brake light. After blowing my 2nd 7.5A Clock/Turn fuse I decided to check the wiring and found that the Negative wire for the brake light had burned through its insulation and mate contact with the earth wire, causing a short. So I removed the damaged section of wire, and re-terminated it.

Everything working fine for about 20 mins and then pop, same problem again, wire has burnt through.

My questions are:

Is having all LED's and then the one halogen light for brakes causing some crazy power consumption down that line?

Or is it possible that the wire that came with the aftermarket light just isn't the correct gauge, and hence can't handle the current? (What actually is the AWG of the stock lighting?)

If a wire has gotten so hot that the insulation has burnt through - DONT ride anywhere with that setup!!
AND I'd even take it out!!!
Wires sizes and fuses are picked for a reason. Don't go over the fuse rating.

I appreciate the response but none of that really answers my questions.

Did you get a good quality one or is it a cheap China one??

Changing to LED should reduce, not increase, power consumption.

And if your melting insulation, you do have a major problem !
