Bump starting?

I saw in the manual that you shouldn't bump start the Rebel. Is there a legit reason for that or is it just Honda liability worries in case of an accident?

I've had to bump start mine...oh a good dozen or so times now. I'd say it's kind of a mix of liability and capability. If there isn't enough power to run the ecm and injectors, you'll probably get nowhere. With mine, however, it's apparently a weak starter (warranty ftw!) and it's been a b**** to deal with. Sometimes it'll start after a couple of chugs, sometimes it just chugs without catching period. The only thing i'm concerned about is having the starter engaged and trying, while in first and dumping the clutch enough to catch and spin the engine. Not sure what kind of damage could occur between the flywheel and the starters teeth.
