Lyoko's bike the Wabi Sabi

As the good little moderator I am, I'll lead by example!

This will be my thread that will contain each and every little thing I've done with Wabi Sabi here since the first day I got her - until percent - and in the future.
I'll be dedicating a new post to my thread where I'll cover each mod on it's own, but how you choose to do this yourself is entirely up to you! After all, it's your thread covering your bike, present it the way you want!

But I'll give a short intro to my bike here:

To get at it from the very start, the Rebel wasn't suppose to be a bike that I was going to own.
I had my eyes set on an entirely different bike. See pictures.
But there was a slight problem, since there was only 1 dealership in entire Norway here that sold it. And they basically wounded up being jerks... I asked and digged around about the bike, wanting to be sure what I was getting. Long story short, they gave me answers that didn't cover what I was actually asking for, and eventually they simply stopped responding to my e-mails...
So I showed them off and was left with no bike in sight.
And as you can see from the pictures, there is a resemblance between it and the Rebel. I wanted that look. The same size tires at the front and back. I've never liked skinny front tires. Never ridden a bike with it, since the Rebel is my very first bike. Like, first bike ever, at all!
In my youth when everyone was riding scooters and mopeds, I rode around on a 50cc ATV instead

But the months passed.. There was literally no other option out there for a bike that looked like this, within my price range... I was a bit sad and depressed about the whole thing.. Even considered importing the bike from somewhere else instead of dealing with the dealership here in Norway.

But, by chance I happened to be sitting in a waiting room for a driving school. I was taking a course there, and was waiting for one other that was participating the course, but was running late.
So as I sat there I started reading through some magazines to kill some time.
And there happened to be a MC magazine that had come out just a few days ago. This was in January of 2017.
And what do you know, my prayers had been heard, because there I stumbled upon the Honda Rebel 500, due for release in April of 2017!
Seeing as my other options was kinda limiting (none existing as a matter of facts) the obvious became very clear to me then. This is the bike I'm gonna get instead!
As thought, as said, as done!
On Mars 4 2017 I signed the contract for purchasing a brand new Honda Rebel 500 ABS. I probably was the very first to do so here in Norway.

I didn't get to take it home until May 4 however. Several reasons, was still getting my license at that time, and it was just more convenient at the time to let it sit on the dealership floor until I was ready for it.

But then one day there she stood!
And it's been a blast every since then.
I've done a a lot to the bike since then. Hence why I named it Wabi Sabi.

I made a thread asking about whether or not people gave their bike a name:
https://www.hondarebel3forum.com/foru...bike-name.html

And after a while, I found the perfect one!
As I wrote back then:
"I have finally found a name for my bike!

I really like the Japanese culture and I'm really fascinated by their way with words and the meanings they put into them.
So I did some digging, and I found a befitting one, in regards of how I view the bike.
I've said before that the Rebel was not my first choise, and that I'm not all that happy with the looks of it.
So a natural and befitting name for it is: Wabi-Sabi.
Yes I know, a little silly name, I'll admit, but the meaning of Wabi-Sabi is this:
"A key Japanese aesthetic rooted in Buddhist teachings—the imperfect, incomplete, and transient nature of beauty."
It is directed towards things that is said to become more beautiful with time and decay, such as wood that gains a mellow patina over time, or as simple as falling autumn leaves, or a chipped vase, etc.
But I still feel it's befitting, as for me the Rebel is imperfect in my eyes, there will be done a lot of things with it in my care, and it is therefore incomplete, and thus with time it will become more beautiful, since I'll be changing it into something more beautiful.

So in short, Wabi-Sabi means the beauty of passing time.
And that fits my bike like a clove from my point of view ^^, "

And it's true, the bike keeps getting more and more pleasing to look at here.
I write that I wasn't happy with the looks of the Rebel. And I don't. Not compared to the bike that I had set my mind to get.
That bike was more sleek in it's shape, there was more of a flow to it and looked more proper to me. It was exactly what I wanted. And the Rebel just didn't give me the same vibe. But I had no choice besides to accept it as it was..
And thus, the meaning of Wabi Sabi fits it just perfect for me.

I didn't get to do so much with it during 2017.
But now in these early months of 2018 I'm all over the bike, modding quite a few things on it here.
There will be dedicated posts with headliners covering the mods I've done so far, so stay tuned!

What bike is that in the pics?

"Ride Safe, Chop Safer" Motorcycles are not unsafe. However; they are extremely unforgiving of inattention, incompetence, ignorance, and stupidity.

That is correct. You make a new thread for your own bike and present it
I will be adding all my mods here with time, but my time is a bit limited here, so all in due time!

Yes, it's the benda 400. The one in the picture however is the 250 I believe, but I was aiming for the 400.

Sound horn - Denali sound bomb

I've changed the stock little meeper to a more.. grown piece.
The Denali sound bomb to be exact.
I got it from here:
https://www.nippynormans.com/f800rf8...omb-120db-horn
You'll also need one of these:
https://www.nippynormans.com/k1200s/...lit-sound-bomb

I originally wanted the compact version, due to thinking it would be more practical. But seeing as mounting space on the Rebel is kinda limited I opted for the two piece version instead.
And I'm glad I did!
I had slight plans to mount them on top of each other on the left side on the frame, but it was kinda cramped.
That's when I discovered a place practically made for the little compressor!
Not too much mounting/fastening option for it, but it's being squeezed a bit by the tubing from the radiator, and the bracket for the mounting bolt now rests against a nudge, and secured by a zip tie.
The horn itself is zip tied to the frame, and held in place by one of those little studs that originally holds the zip tie for the original horn wires. So even if it's just zip tied, it ain't going anywhere!
