Riding Sun’s Rebel 500 Build

I am the first owner of a 3rd generation Honda Rebel 500 in the state of Oklahoma and have still been riding since 2017 and still loving every second with it. I intend to create this build thread for future modifications. I hope to show more step by step changes to my bike from here on out to promote more customization amongst this forums community!

Current mods:
Biltwell Keystone Handlebars
Biltwell Recoil Grips
Diablo Shorty Exhaust
Modified eBay sissy bar
Modified eBay meter visor
Adjustable front fork pre-loader caps

Future plans:
Rear fender mod
Custom sissy bar
Relocated license plate
Custom integrated signal tail light
Taller handlebars (still deciding what kind)
Longer brake lines and cables
Brand name exhaust (still deciding what brand)
Front fork boot cover
Shinko front/rear 240 classic tires

For the meter visor, I created a cardboard template of an eBay visor’s bracket and went to my local hardware store to buy some sheet metal to trace and cut. Afterwards, some black spray paint and red stripes and it’s good to go! 🙂
It definitely was a huge improvement on highway winds as it took redirected a lot of wind off my chest.

This is my current plan on how I want to tackle the rear end of this bike. I’m wanting to make a custom rear fender that will mount to the swing arm with the sissy bar attached to the swing arm and welded to the rear fender. I uploaded some pictures to give you a better idea.

you may be able to find a front fender from a larger bike that will fit the curve of your rear tire well - that's what i did on mine

I did it on an older Rebel but the concept is the same - it was from an early 90's VT1100 - you can kind of guesstimate which fenders will work by knowing the outside diameter of your rear wheel then looking up the front tire size on some common larger bikes - there are tire calculators online that will tell you the OD of any tire

Here’s a sneak peak of the fender and sissy bar I got! (I use electrical tape to hold things in place for the picture lol). I should have a buddy help me weld it over the weekend so I’m excited! I’m thinking of losing the sissy bar though and run the fender shorter instead, let me know what you think.

I like the fender sitting low near the tire; i guess if it's attached to the swingarm you don't have to worry about contact when the shocks/frame moves up and down over bumps yeah?
also i'd get rid of the sissy bar since there's no rear seat. IMO of course.

That is correct Odin! After watching how the fender sits... I’ve decided not to go this route on my bike and will order something else to save on time and money. I will give you guys an update on the change. In the meantime, I will probably sale or keep the fender/sissybar for another project.
