Angry Need Advice, Front fork seal leaking

2017 Honda Rebel 300 all stock. Year and 10 months old 11,400 miles developed a oil ring on the right front fork, Wiped off only to come right back next ride (approx 2 weeks) now leaking badly. Took it into a shop $250.00 to do both sides P&L. Got a call that the bushing is destroyed and was the probable cause for the seal leaking...Seriously 11,400 miles! The guy has a 4.5 rating and isn't even charging me any additional labor just 25.00 bushing kit. What do you think? Can I tell by looking if the bushing is bad? The other problem is the bike will be down for another week while part ordered. BTW I kept it wiped off so oil didn't drip into the brake pads while waiting for the first parts to arrive. Think I'll have a chance of Honda participation???

Jim,

Two things on a motorcycle warranty that are almost never covered are drive chains and fork seals.

Seems like a reasonable price for the job. I doubt Honda would help unless you went to them first. I don’t remember the length of the warranty on our rebels, can’t imagine it was over a year. Maybe someone else knows.

I consider that you are unlucky with this failure. The bike is, after all, 'budget' but that should not have happened yet.

1 year warranty and Kenny is probably correct about Honda not helping. That failure is unusual but.. what kind of roads are you dealing with? Rough roads could be the cause. They tend to score the forks. I would keep it where it is and pay the 25 extra that sounds like the fastest way to get it back.

Dried dead bugs on your forks will ruin a seal pretty fast. You might want to add some gaiters while you have it in the shop.

the original warranty was 1 year, unless you bought (or was included in your price) the extended warranty which is 5 years. but you'd have to read the print, i'm sure there's plenty of things 'NOT' covered, so they limit their liability.
hope you get it fixed right, and doesn't cost too much out of pocket.

Last time I had fork seals done I had to have forks re-chromed. Things could always be worse....
