First oil change

So I finally got to 500miles and decided to do my own oil change and I did. I've read that it takes 3QT of oil, and I put that much. Now my problem is when the bike is up right the oil goes above the max line. What actions can I do to lower it some?

First, did you fill the new oil filter before you installed it? That will make a difference if you haven't run it much. I poked around and 3 quarts looks correct. So you might be okay. Run it for a bit and let the oil get everywhere it needs to go, then check it again.

If you still have too much oil in there, steal your wife's/mom's turkey baster and use that. I'm KIDDING!
Take the top off a spray bottle. Clean and dry that **** first! Stick the straw down the filler hole and spray the excess out into one of your oil bottles.

Isn't 500 miles a bit too early to change the oil though? When is first service supposed to be?

Changing the oil a bit early is fine, but waiting too long is what causes problems.

Garage
Hello everyone. I got my rebel a few months back and was never told that I needed maintenance and an oil change at 600 miles. I have rode that puppy to 2800 miles now and just had everything tightened but no oil change yet. I want to be able to do this myself and put in synthetic oil. Does anyone have a recommendation for which oil I should use and which oil filter? Thanks!

I used the Honda recommended oil and a K&N filter on mine.

I also read the owner's manual cover to cover (including scheduled maintenance wink wink) the day I bought the bike.

What K&N filter? I cannot find any information on what size of oil filter to use.
