Power to Weight Ratio

How will the 2018 Rebel 500 stack up against the 2018 Honda Shadow 750 in performance?

Letís use the Shadow Phantom 750 for an example VS Rebel 500Ö

● Shadow Phantom 750 | 40.5 Horsepower / 47.9 Torque / 549 lbs = Power-to-Weight Ratio .074 HP / .00015 TQ

● Rebel 500 | 44.9 Horsepower / 32.8 Torque / 408 lbs = Power-to-Weight Ratio .110 HP / .00014 TQ

When comparing their horsepower-to-weight ratio on the Rebel 500 VS Shadow Phantom 750 itís a huge difference but when comparing their torque-to-weight it does close up the gap slightly where the Phantom edges out but just barely. The Shadow would have a fighting chance at launch but once you get into 2nd gear and get moving the Rebel is going to pull away and widen the gap the faster they go. My $$ would be on the Rebel whether it be a roll race or from a dig.

The "horse thief" (A.K.A. power robbing shaft drive) doesn't help matters with the 750 either. Two right angle connections makes for an inefficient power transfer, and then there's the additional weight. Prior generation 750 Shadows with their dual carbs and chain drives simply suck the headlights out of their current shaft driven counterparts.

"Ride Safe, Chop Safer" Motorcycles are not unsafe. However; they are extremely unforgiving of inattention, incompetence, ignorance, and stupidity.

I sold my Shadow Aero shortly after buying the Rebel 500. The Rebel is a lot more fun to ride and is much quicker than the 750. I did really like the Aero though, it was a comfy ride for longer distances, but after owning both, I'd take the Rebel every time.
BlackSnow likes this.

Only a fool would attempt it, and God help me, I am that fool.
