Speedometer display brightness

Hi All: looking for some advice. The speedometer display on my Rebel 300 is very dim. Most of the time I can just make out the speed and fuel gauge; clock and odometer are too dark to read. I saw a couple of photographs on the forum, unrelated to the display, but it was in the shot, and they appeared very bright and easy to read. I have my backlight setting on maximum, but the only time I can see any blue backlight is when the bike is in the garage and even then its not bright at all. It is so difficult to read I have installed a Koso aftermarket display
I took a photograph of the display on a bright, but not a particularly sunny day. I have tried to attach a couple of photographs, but not sure if I did it correctly.... Thanks for any advice

Panther,

I'm no expert but there is definitely a defect in that display. I'd contact the dealer asap. Good luck and let us know what happens.

Yeah should take it back to get replaced. That is definitely not how it should look even on the dimmest level.

It does look like some of your digits are missing some segments
The fuel display looks the same

Did you check under your seat?

Did you buy the bike at the dealer? If you didn't get a manual, they need to get one for you.

Funny story for me. The dealer didn't hand me anything when we picked up the bike, but we were in a hurry. So we agreed that I'd stop by and pick up the manual later. When I did, they asked if I checked under the seat. Well, no, not yet. So I went home, pulled the seat off and looked down in there. No manual. Put the seat back on. Called the salesman and let him know. He looked under some at the dealership. No manuals there either. What the heck? So I happened to stop by once about a week later for another reason, and he said, "I'm embarrassed to admit that they were under the seats all the time." I told him that I looked. Then he showed me that they're attached to the UNDERSIDE of the seat. Ummmmmm. I had the bike with me and... sure enough! I took off the seat and put it back on but never looked there! I joined him in embarrassment.

Thanks to all for your replies. Based on your advice and input I will certainly be taking it back to the dealership for them to check it out. Will let you know what they say...Thanks again. John

Cue and jr. May sound stupid but how do you get under the seat? I pulled up on one side a little and sure enough I can see the manual under there. But wasn't able to figure out how to get it off. I tugged on the plastic side panels a little but didn't want to break them.

T,

Pull off the right side panel, gripping it at both the front and back. You will find an Allen wrench in a clip attached to the bike. Lift the back edge of the seat cover and you will find 2 Allen bolts. Remove both bolts being careful not to drop them. Lift the back edge of the seat and slide it towards the back end of the bike.

Reverse procedure to reinstall the seat and the side cover.
