2-up riding speed?

Ok weird thing happened the other day. While riding on a highway with no traffic, i started accelerating and the bike would not go past 75-75 mph. It would get there and then just fluctuate between 75 and 76. I don't normally speed but I found this quite unusual. I've had it over 80 before with more head room left.

So here is the details.
Rebel 500
Rider weight 165
Passenger weight 120
Was on a flat straight road.
6th gear.
It didn't feel like it was sputtering or anything, just like it had no more power.

I have had it easily past 80 with the same passenger in the past.

Im gonna do some riding alone to see if it has the same issue. If so I may have to get rid of the slip on exhaust even though I have had it on for a month and never caused an issue before.

Shorty,

The next time that happens try dropping back into 5th gear and see what happens.

Huh, that sounded strange.
Is there even an electric limiter on the bike? Or mechanical? I know there is some systems in place in case you crash it or just lay it over onto the side, but haven't read anything about it limiting your top speed.

6th gear is basically an overdrive. doesn't really have a whole lot power available to it. Drop it to 5th and open her up, listen to the rpms, you'll know when to shift to 6th and she'll keep speed.

Its the same thing I went through with my 300. Highway driving, getting up to speed, passing, got to drop that gear, get it moving then cruise in 6th. 5th gear will take you right to 86-88mph. Least it does on the 300. I bet the 500 can go to about 95mph before going to 6th.

Some might think that extreme on such a small bike. I've had Honda's for years, I know their limitations, and I can assure you, this little 300 can take it.

Thanks for this!
That explains why I'm struggling to gain speed in 6th. Highest I've managed to go was 82mph on the 300. But that's probably because I'm shifting early into 6th then trying to stretch it.

Yeah even on the 500 I find myself shifting into 6th way too soon.

But I gotta ask.. What is the highway speed limit for you guys? Who the heck cruises at 95 mph even?!

Fastest I was able to get the 300 to, which was this past weekend, was 100mph. Flat straight road. Wasn't cruising at that speed per say, just seeing what this little bike can do, how far can I push it. Hasn't disappointed me yet besides comfort. lol.

Shift timing was key, otherwise I'd be there all day trying to get there. Actually started timing myself on the shifts, and 1.75 sec shifts roughly is what I am able to do.

Soon as I squeeze the lever, foot comes up, then I just let go of lever same time opening up throttle. No lurch, no bog, its quick enough not even notice I made a shift except for the sound of rpms. lol. Call me crazy, but its a habit I've always had with anything I ride/drive. It's my ride, I want to know what she can, lol.

Ofc, always nice to know what the machine can do ^^,

But no, seriously, like what is the speed limit for you guys thou?
Normal high speed limit through out Norway is set at 80 km/h (50 mph)
Here where I live the freeway speed limit is 90 km/h (56 mph)
Some freeways have a speed limit of 110 km/h (68 mph) wich is the highest speed limit we have here in Norway.

We have roads with limits up to 80 MPH in North Texas.
