Keys

Just curious how you guys are managing your key. Do you have it separated from any other key you have or on a key ring?

Mine (when it finally arrives) will be on a paracord key ring by itself. My other keys are on a caribener ring I keep on a belt loop.

I have my bike's keys on a dedicated rings and then the rest of my keys on a seperate ring. In fact I have each vehicle's rings on dedicated rings. Makes it easy to switch rides. I also hate having lots of keys jingling and scratching while riding. With the Rebel having the key on the side it seems even more appropriate to do this.

Can't edit above post...

This is what I'll be using, though I contacted the seller/maker and had it made without the carabiner (didn't want an extra piece dangling/scratching things).

The ignition key is in the bike or in my pocket. No key rings or such.

I would advise you getting duplicates made and storing the originals with the title; this only applies to North American versions or other areas where HISS (Honda Ignition Security System) is not activated. If you are in an HISS area, the shop has to be involved, and they are more expensive, but it is still far better that the cost of all new stuff (I believe a new ECU is required; some poor Brit wound up paying ~ 400 pounds to get his bike re-keyed after losing his last key).

I did as you suggested and added a few spare keys.

I called the dealership, and was quoted a high prices for keys that did not have any built-in electronics (aka smart key).
- for the 2017 Honda Rebel CMX300 & another bike I have.

I am enclosing a picture of the key type/model number, where I purchased my recent set.
While they are not "fancy", they do work fine as inexpensive spares

You may be able to find a local locksmith that carries the same key model # of hd109.

Recommend that you write down your key code, to an email to yourself.
If you have that written down, you can have a spare created while on the road.

Cheers!

Are those keys made by a local locksmith or by the dealer?

I keep a spare key hidden on the bike.

Only a fool would attempt it, and God help me, I am that fool.
