I saw a post somewhere on here a few had modified the battery port to extend a charger for a tender they can connect to directly.

My question: 2017 and 2018 models don't have one already built in? I ask because I spotted this on my 19 300 (pic below) and I'm wondering if it's a battery tender hook up pre installed from factory? If it is, does the battery tender plug go right in there without me having to open the seat and fiddle around with the connection to the battery?

Edit: sorry, I'm talking about the extension with a red cap...

Thanks!

I do not know what that red thingy is but it doesn't look like anything I have ever seen for connecting a Battery Tender.

That is indeed a factory installed Battery Tender connector. My '19 500 came with one as well. Though why it's way up there, instead of right under the seat, makes no sense to me.

Thanks for the responses. Yeah it does look like it could be a battery tender hook up... interesting.

I'm going to plug it in see if it works right off the shelf or if there's something I have to do under the seat to complete the connection. I've looked everywhere for an owners manual, but sadly it seems missing.

It may not be placed under the seat for ease of access, since I guess you can just plug it without having to fiddle around with anything... we'll see.

Are you sure that is a battery tender tail and not the datalink connector? Normally the battery tender tail is set up to be used easily without having to remove the seat or anything else. Unless you are certain what it is I would not plug power into it as it could damage your bike and if still under warranty this would be voided.

Yeah I'm pretty sure it's not the Datalink connection - that's under the seat and strapped just above the battery between a fuse puller and a makeshift screwdriver. I know this because I have a gear shift indicator that I initially thought wasn't compatible with my bike because the end didn't connect with that tail sticking out. I was about to return it, but then checked the diagram again and it showed that I had to connect it elsewhere right into that data port.

Still haven't tried the tail though...

These are usually something the dealer installs meaning not factory equipped but an aftermarket accessory. If you bought it new from the dealer just give them a call. More than likely they'll offer to sell you the power unit since what you have is kind of useless without it!

I did actually confirm with the dealership...all Canadian 2019+ 300 and 500s are ABS only models and all come with the tender cable from factory as stock!

Got a tender coming in from fortnine soon and I'll test it out.

Tender came in. Plug N Play, no issues and zero pre installation work required.
