1. That engine casing really does protrude too far. That said I do not have a problem when riding.
2. A gear indicator would be good. I have got used to one now on my other bike. Must investigate.
3. Not a prob for me.
Enjoy your next 100 miles and those that follow. I must say that I am really enjoying riding this bike. My only gripe is the vibes coming in about 58mph in 6th gear.[/QUOTE]
I have 600 miles on my new Honda Rebel 500. So far, I love it. The engine now wants to really go! I find neutral by shifting down from second as I'm slowing for a light, or stopping. The engine protusion doesn't bother me, but I really want some forward pegs for the highway. My new windshield is fantastic. It blocks the wind, is small, unobtrusive, strong, and really enhances the look of the bike. I paid $115.00 for it on Amazon.
I had the dealer check out the engine light that came on at around 300 miles. They found nothing. It has never come on again.
I just did a 100-mile loop on the Shenandoah Skyline Drive, and the bike handles like a champ. The seat is getting better: either my a** is breaking in, or the bike seat is.
