What is the price of a 300?

I went to a dealer today to look at a new 2017 Rebel 300 that they had listed on their site for $3,644, a $750 discount off of the MSRP of $4,399. They had four of them actually, just as shown on their site. Anyhow, when I get to the dealer, they have the bikes, but with a price of $6,199. I ask about it, and they say that is just the list, not the actual price, and I also ask about the prices on their site and they say those are before other charges, and the final price is something like $5,200.

At this point, I leave. It was nice to actually sit on the bikes, but the prices were so far off from their advertised prices that I figure I would do more research. I have bought many cars before, but this is the first time buying a new bike.

My question is this - what price should I expect to pay at a dealer for a 2018 Rebel 300? According to Honda's site the MSRP is $4,449 + $330 destination charge. Plus a $300 rebate (in the form of a visa debit card). I understand there are dealer charges, but $1,500 of them? I've bought many cars but this is the first time buying a new bike. The bikes I have owned before (a long time ago) I bought used.

Lots of People have found dealers with no dealer fees. You may want to try other dealers.

In addition to the bike price, the dealer will add in the destination charge, set up and/or dealer prep fee and license fee (charged by the state). The set up/dealer prep fee is a junk fee and is where you can negotiate.

Also try Craigslist for some dealers:

Thanks for the link to that thread. Takes a bit of effort to piece the what with where on that thread, but it is helpful. I have determined one thing. If I am going to haggle, it will be over a 2018 300 ABS, when they get them in stock. Btw, as was noted on another thread, the dealer wasn't able to sell any rebels anyways (which saved me having to make an excuse to leave). There is a stop-sell in place right now over an EPA issue (nothing major as far as I could tell).

I bought my 2017 rebel 300 last year around March, probably the first 300 sold in Illinois. Ended up paying full retail and dealer fees, being new and limited stock dealer didn't want to drop the price. Had 3 other people in the dealer looking at the same bike too.

OTD I paid just under $6k. Did I overpay compared to other members on the forum? You bet. But it really depends on your area and market.
